A77E New Aircraft Machining
A77E Picture

A 50 Taper spindle and a 500mm square pallet highlight the A77E from Makino, the newest of the Makino A series machines and the first to offer these key features. The A77E’s combination of flexibility, accuracy and speed will take our customers to new levels of productivity. The new technology redefines time-to-market and profitability expectations and carves out a real competitive advantage for our customers.

A number of impressive features can be found on the A77E as well as the entire line up of reliable, robust and productive Makino A series machines. The A77E includes the new Geometric Intelligence Software and advanced thermal control technology. The heavy duty Rocket Table of the A77E is a 40-rpm rotary table that is twice as fast as other tables on the market. The A77E also has an HSK-A100 spindle option and a new automatic feature option that reduces the part loading height from 1200mm to 950mm for ease of operation.

Built for Speed

Makino's new Geometric Intelligence Software looks ahead in the part program for toolpath changes and compensates on the fly for machine dynamics to hold high machining accuracies at high cutting feedrates. And acceleration and deceleration in rapid traverse can now approach 1.0g. As powerful as it is fast, the A77E provides unmatched start-to-finish processing efficiency.

Makino's Rocket Table puts multiple workpieces in range of the spindle immediately, reducing non-cut time. Operating at speeds up to 40 rpm and able to handle increased weight, the heavy-duty Rocket Table has full fourth axis capability and special planetary gear design with large diameter clamping and repeatability. The high-rpm table doesn't lift before rotating, allowing it to position simultaneously with the Z-axis. The A77E can handle loads up to 700 kg per pallet. Maximum workzone is 800 mm x 1,000 mm. The rotary table positions 90° in 1.7 seconds and 180° in 2.0 seconds.

The A77E Handles the Heat

The A77E's thermal control technology delivers enhanced spindle cooling, ballscrew cooling and efficient coolant delivery, improving accuracy and prolonging the lifespan of the machining center.

Its patented core cooling system and under race lubrication cool the spindle from the inside out, eliminating the need for a warm-up cycle and keeping the spindle cooler than its housing. That makes heavy bearing preload possible from a cold start, allowing the A77E to cut immediately.

Core cooling of the ballscrew dissipates heat to prolong overall life of the ballscrew and increase accuracy during use. Chilled oil is pumped through the ballscrew to help it stay accurate at high speeds and keep the proper tension on the screws for high performance and long term superior volumetric accuracy. In addition, the machine has an 800-liter coolant capacity.

High-speed machining means more chips, which makes chip removal critical especially during heavy hogging and dry machining operations. The A77E delivers with a center trough design (425mm wide) positioned in the middle of the machining area.

Maximum Flexibility

It accepts longer and heavier tools to handle a large variety of part features, such as deep boring operations. The powerful A77E spindle can get closer to the centerline of the pallet to access all part features while optimizing tool length. It also has a 40-tool magazine standard, and optional 89, 131, 187, and 243 capacities.

The A77E casts a narrow footprint (3,255 mm wide x 5,373 mm deep) with the standard tool magazine taking up less floor space in the shop. This narrow design also allows for more spindle power in less space and has a lighter and shorter column for better feedrate acceleration. The highly rigid bed of the A77E allows the use of a three-point leveling system eliminating the need for a special foundation, allowing for easy deployment and redeployment. The bed has multiple ribs for better stiffness to improve accuracy.
