Makino's V55-5XA vertical machining center is ideal for
intricately shaped areospace components and jobs involving multiface machining. The five-axis
control creates greater spindle access to the part, which allows the production of intricate workpieces with a
high degree of accuracy.
According
to a Makino spokesperson these impressive finishes are made
possible by Makinos proven processes and technologies. By
utilizing Flush Fine (FF) and 'feed equals pick' (f/P) advanced milling
processes, the need for polishing is nearly eliminated.
FF is a high-speed, high-definition
and low-heat machining process pioneered by Makino. It combines high
spindle speeds with precisely controlled, high pressure coolant or forced
air to blast away chips and prevent heat buildup, either in the workpiece
or the tool. This permits high-speed machining with greater thermal
stability and chip control, resulting in a high metal removal rate and
longer tool life.
Taking surface finish to
an even higher level of accuracy is the f/P process, a ten year old
concept verified by Makino testing. This process adjusts feedrate equally
to pick rate. When compared to common machine milling, this process
helps create highly accurate, smooth, more uniform surfaces.
Proven Technology for the Shop Floor
On the shop floor,
these innovative processes translate into complex 3D surfaces with superior
accuracy and finishes which help reduce lead time and boost profitability.
The V55 is backed by a variety
of Makino features and designs, including:
- A high-speed automatic
tool changer (2.0 second tool-to-tool) that reduces out-of-cut time
and increases throughput rates.
- 1,968 ipm (50,000 mm/min)
rapid traverse with equally fast cutting feeds boosts productivity
by reducing out-of-cut time while increasing metal removal rates.
- Individual machine mapping
and proprietary Super Geometric Intelligence (SGI) servo control that
permits high accuracy at high feedrates.
- A modular, systems-ready
design that facilitates integration into flexible machining cells
and systems, reducing development time and custom engineering.
- Three-point leveling that
eliminates the need for a special foundation, allowing fast, economical
installation and easy redeployment for manufacturing flexibility.
